Brown

Brown University is one of the most prestigious Ivy League schools renowned for its high academic requirements, admission standards, and social prestige. As every other Ivy Leagues, Brown University fosters some of the most academically rigorous and exclusive curriculum with low acceptance rates per 2023. They are famous for their open curriculum that provides students with freedom to explore various interests. Established in 1764, Brown was the third institution in line in New England and the seventh in Colonial America. Up until now, Brown University has been a private institution of selective learning located in Providence, Rhode Island, USA (Britannica, 2023).

As a highly prestigious school, Brown University deeply evaluates academic excellence in their admissions process. It is one of the most crucial criteria, followed by aligned extracurricular activities or leadership skills outside of school. While academic achievements determine a portion of the student’s application, Brown’s admissions officers also want to assess the initial interest of students, ranging from their background to their demonstrated interest in attending Brown (AdmissionSight, 2023).

Thus, it is very important that you're able to fit all of Brown’s admission criteria to be definitely qualified. If you are applying to Brown University this year, you need to evaluate your academic scores and, most importantly, your extracurricular activities. Brown deeply values leadership roles in academic settings, such as group projects, student tutoring, and research projects. Even so, they also want to highlight any forms of leadership in your extracurricular activities. This is why building initiatives and forming abilities to contribute to the school community is a high priority for you to develop in your application, both in academic and external preferences.

Students at Brown University managed to pass the admissions by perfecting their applications. If you’re reading this with a longing for Brown, it’s important to do in-depth research. As written, academic excellence plays a pivotal role in a student's evaluation, extracurricular activities, and leadership positions, as well as the student’s initial interest. Through this, you will stand out more by mastering abilities related to learning. Whether you’re challenging yourself with rigorous coursework, as long as you’re equipped with a sense of inquiry, openness to opposing viewpoints, capacity for verbal and written expression, etc, you will get the upper hand. Though the process of standing out more with Brown tends to involve thorough research. Many students at Brown University spent their time searching for information on Brown and using it in their application, thus perfecting it. If you’re willing to dig deep, then you’ll also be able to find the very same weapon that previous students have used to get into Brown University.

Harvard

On September 8, 1636, the most prestigious Ivy League school was founded: Harvard University. Being the first college in the American colonies founded through a vote by the Great and General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Harvard owns 14 schools that are located throughout Massachusetts (Harvard University, 2023).

Known as one of the most selective schools with an acceptance rate of 4%, Harvard searches for a well-rounded student with excellent academic scores who is willing to challenge themselves with rigorous coursework. If you want to increase your chances of being admitted to Harvard, then taking IB and AP classes is highly recommended. Harvard seeks students who are at the top of their class, with admitted students typically having exceptional GPAs ranging from 3.8 to 4.0. Standardized test scores for Harvard have been announced as optional for college classes of 2027–2030. But if you want to submit these tests, you must at least have an average score of 1500 in your SAT and an average score of 34 in your ACT. If you’re an international high school student trying to make it at Harvard, you need to submit the TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, or Duolingo English tests (Crimson Education, n.d.).

While academic excellence plays a critical role in Harvard admissions, your extracurricular activities also determine a large portion of it. Every case of extracurricular activities by students is different, ranging from achievements in independent research up to demonstrating excellence in one particular field of interest. But as it is, Harvard continues to seek dynamic, talented, and diverse students who are willing to make significant contributions to their environment. Thus, if you’re in the middle of developing an extracurricular, make sure it relates to your field of interest (Harvard College, n.d.). But if you really want to strengthen your application, you need to be able to form a passion project that can showcase your passion and enthusiasm. No matter what it is, as long as your passion project can have a major impact on your community, it will make you stand out more.

Admitted students at Harvard shared one thing in common: their perfected supplemental essays. Harvard’s three supplemental essays are crucial for students to stand out more from the application crowd. All these essays must be as impactful as possible while being short at the same time. If you still feel like you haven’t conveyed all the important information about yourself and your accomplishments, you can always include an additional essay that will boost your chances of being seen. That’s why, no matter how well-written your application is, Harvard wants to see how passionate of an individual you are and whether you are up to their standards (Larriva, 2023).

Columbia

Located in New York, Columbia is one of the most prestigious Ivy League universities. Based on its reputation, Columbia university seeks highly motivated, intelligent students who are actively committed to both academics and extracurriculars. One of the most obvious criteria for students who wish to get in is academic excellence. This includes a solid GPA, good grades, and high SAT/ACT score. Much like other universities Columbia seeks students who possess intellectual curiosity. Such curiosity should be reflected in the application in various ways; such as: Independent research on a certain subject and passion project, preferably with a high impact. While academic achievements are important, Columbia also seeks students with diverse interests and a well-rounded background. They are often interested in applicants who have participated in extracurricular activities, such as sports, arts, community service, leadership roles, or other notable accomplishments outside of the classroom. Another important part of the application is the essay. Consider this as an opportunity to convey your unique interests, experiences and encounters which helped you become the person you are today. Focus on expressing yourself in a way that leaves an indelible mark, a great impression on the person upon reading your personal essay. Due to the overwhelming number of competitive applicants, you’ll need to stand out. Volunteer in various organizations, take up some extracurriculars and don’t be afraid to experiment. Enrich your portfolio with awards, nominations etc. Remember: the more intriguing, the better!

In conclusion, Columbia University deeply values academic excellence, commitment, potential and leadership roles. It’s important to take into consideration the fact that each applicant’s profile is unique, and highly competitive. However, you shouldn’t let this discourage you. Remember to do your best!

Princeton

Princeton is known for its academic excellence, vibrant campus life, and rich history. Established in 1746, Princeton is one of the oldest universities in the United States. However, with the acceptance rate being only 5.7% (2022 data) getting into it might seem unattainable for most students. The question is, what specific qualifications should a student have to be able to get in? Since Princeton is a highly competitive university, you will need a high GPA and really good SAT scores. To be a strong candidate, your GPA should ideally be between 3.8 and 4.0. The average SAT score of the students who got in is 1540, which is quite challenging. Apart from academics, what most universities value is demonstrating interest, passion and commitment outside of school. Demonstrate commitment through utilizing various extracurriculars and volunteer opportunities which will look good on your resume. While it’s good to have many achievements on your resume, in such competitive environments your main goal is to stand out. To do so you must solely focus on and dedicate yourself to one specific thing which will make you stand out in a group of so many students. Making yourself memorable in the eyes of the Admissions officers is crucial. Don’t feel too pressured to align yourself with something that you’re not. During the application process, remember to maintain your individuality at all costs. This is also an important step of standing out. Princeton recognizes the importance of diversity and believes that a diverse student body enhances the academic and social environment on campus. Princeton also values applicants who bring unique perspectives to campus. This can include experiences or perspectives gained through community involvement, advocacy work, research, or personal interests. Admissions officers seek individuals who have demonstrated a distinct viewpoint and the potential to contribute to the university's intellectual and social discourse. For this particular reason, you must embrace your individuality and try to express it through personal essays, achievements etc. As much as academics are important, there’s also other factors that come into play during the selection process. Don’t get too lost and focus on them all equally.

Cornell

Cornell University established in 1865 is only one out of the eight leagues. Cornell is able to offer their students world-class faculty and exceptional academic offerings, Cornell has earned a reputation for being known for their excellence in education, research, and innovation (AdmissionSight, 2023)

Cornell prioritizes academic performance and plays a critical role when considering a student's application such as GPA, SAT, and ACT. While SAT or ACT test scores aren't the only important Students who are considering applying for Cornell may choose to apply for Advanced Placement (AP) classes as they also factor in the student's academic ability. To further improve academically it is very important for students to know how to manage their time as this is able to help and improve a student’s academic life. Setting time slots for different activities can increase and improve a student's performance. Next is AP classes. It would be best to take as much as one can handle but students who plan going to Ivy Leagues are recommended to take at least 3 or 4 each year.

In addition, Cornell also prioritizes extracurricular activities they like to consider students who are well-rounded, take initiative, and are committed to being at the service of others both in and outside of school. Always seek to be at the service of others, cornell seeks students who have the potential to be future leaders, look for opportunities to be a student leader and to be involved in community service, if there are none then take initiative whether it would be starting an organization which promotes a certain advocacy or starting a donation drive, one must look for ways where they can involve themselves in the community and to be at the service of others.

Yale

Yale was founded in 1701 and is one of the top 20 universities in the world. Yale fosters over 120 subjects which range from liberal arts, science, and engineering (Yale, 2023). Yale is home to prestigious schools of both law and management and their chart topping undergraduate and graduate programs in different fields

Yale highly prioritizes most especially when admitting their students is academic excellence things like maintaining a high GPA and earning high SAT and ACT scores are somethings which students must focus on to better their chances to get into Yale. “Who is likely to make the most out of Yale’s resources” and “Who will contribute most significantly to the Yale community” is what Yale's admission officers asks as they review students application, this means to make the most of what is in front of you whether it's taking all the AP(advanced placement) classes your school offers or taking the IB (international baccalaureate) program, taking in the knowledge to help your community or the people which surround you (Zhen, 2023), taking in research internships at local colleges or internships could also help boost in the application as it would focus on academic research.

Dartmouth

Dartmouth University has been finding exceptional students around the world, and helping them thrive into well-educated individuals since 1769. Its campus is located in Hanover, New Hampshire and accepts approximately 1,750 applicants each year.

Although Dartmouth university may seem like an extremely challenging school to enter, it is very much possible especially once knowing what they are seeking for in future students. One of the most important things to do to prepare yourself for applications, is to create a unique persona that makes your application stand out. This can be done by not only entering, but excelling in extracurricular activities while in high school. Approximately, 500 students that are accepted each year were either valedictorian, or salutatorian in their class year, which is always a great tactic used to distinguish yourself from classmates.

UPenn

The University of Pennsylvania have carried pride in their diverse and excelling school since 1779. They seek students who can strive to refine their skills to become leaders within their field of interest.

The University of Pennsylvania has only a 5% acceptance rate, although this is an intimidating statistic students wishing to attend have a greater success while applying only a few tips. It is stated directly within the UPenn admission site that they are seeking students who are able to apply their knowledge and strengths in a way which serves society ( Penn Admissions, 2023). They are not specifically inclined to choose an applicant over another due to preferable abilities, moreso the dedication to using that ability to better their community. This can be as community service as well, which is a key value the University of Pennsylvania holds. Many students at UPenn have previously utilized their passions for certain issues within their community, and worked towards finding a solution, starting non-profits or fundraisers. Furthermore, ensure you research the university, learning the small details that directly apply to your passion for pursuing an education at UPenn. This can vastly benefit you when writing applications and provide an ability for the admission committee to view your passion and character.

Academic success immensely contributes to one's acceptance at University of Pennsylvania, as about 93% of accepted students were in the top 10% of their high school grade. The SAT scores of admitted students averaged to be around 1525, and the average ACT score was between 33 and 35 (IvyWise, 2023).
